Who We Are
The Coalition exists to ensure a coordinated approach from the nonprofit sector in Nova Scotia to address major challenges facing our province.
The Nova Scotia Nonprofit Coalition is working to navigate social, environmental, and economic challenges that pose serious concerns for the health and wellbeing of Nova Scotians. As a Coalition, we believe that by working together, we can amplify the energy and expertise of our sector to support a bold, communitycentered plan for social change.
Our Pillars
PILLAR 1
Collaboration makes Nova Scotia stronger.
When nonprofits collaborate with each other, the government and the private sector, we magnify the impact of programs and initiatives for all Nova Scotians.
PILLAR 2
The nonprofit sector is bigger than you think.
The scale and impact of the nonprofit sector are over underestimated. The sector in Nova Scotia features thousands of organizations – not just the big players. You may be surprised to discover how much we do.
PILLAR 3
We’re the glue.
The nonprofit sector unites passionate and highly skilled people who tackle tough challenges, addressing unmet needs to create a more equitable and resilient Nova Scotia.
PILLAR 4
We help communities thrive.
We provide research, support, advocacy and services that improve quality of life for all Nova Scotians and we are increasingly relied upon to address societal needs.
Our Shared Priorities
To amplify the Community Impact Sector and improve the wellbeing of every Nova Scotian, the Coalition is taking bold action with three key priorities:
1
Deepen Public Understanding and Shape Public Policy
Harness our collective voices to shine a light on complex systemic issues and inform provincial policies and priorities that enrich community resilience and wellbeing.
2
Champion a Thriving Community Impact Sector
Lead a process to re-envision the future of our sector—partnering with governments, the private sector, and philanthropy—ensuring it is well-resourced, recognized for its expertise, and respected for its impact.
3
Secure an Equal and Respected Seat at All Tables
Ensure nonprofit sector voices and leaders are actively participating in key committees and multi-sector discussions, driving positive change in our province.
